Moyale DO and policeman killed in accident |
A
District Officer and an Administration Police Officer were killed in a
road accident along the Isiolo-Embu road on Sunday.
Moyale DO, Mr Vincent Ekati, died on the spot after the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in lost control after a tyre burst. The Land Rover 110 then landed in a ditch. Kenya Red Cross airlifted two other Government officials to Nairobi for treatment. The vehicle was carrying 10 occupants at the time of the accident. The officers were travelling to Embu from Isiolo for the Rapid Response Training carried out by the Office of the President. Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Abass Gullet said they were called by officials from Moyale District Commissioner’s office and asked to help airlift the victims to Nairobi. Moyale DO One, Mr John Kinjo, was among the two who were airlifted to the Kenyatta National Hospital. He said the rear tyre of the car burst before the vehicle rolled throwing them out. "We were going to Embu for a meeting together with APs who were going for transfers from Moyale," said Kinjo who had his neck plastered. "We started our journey to Embu on Saturday since the meeting was to start on Monday. "Before we got to Isiolo, our car got a puncture... we replaced the tyre then drove on," Mr Bernard Lelei an Administration Police officer at Moyale said. In the car, were three DOs and six Administration Policemen. Kinjo said he suffered injuries on his neck, chest and back. "I found myself outside with the DO (deceased) lying on me," he said. He said vehicles plying the route refused to take them to hospital. "They told us to wait for a GK vehicle which would take us to hospital," he said. Sergeant Major Albert Iloli of Moyale AP was also among those who were brought to KNH yesterday. A surgeon at KNH, Dr Afulo Omondi, said two of those taken there had serious injuries. He said one of them suffered severe head injuries while the other one has paralysis of his lower limbs. Omondi said one of the patients would be taken for a brain scan to establish the extent of the injuries. |
