Sunday Sept. 07, 2008 by Gur Gharri GSG News  contributor:

On Sept.06, 2008 two Gharri men were brutally murdered by Murale gunmen near Wargadud, El Wak District, Central Gharri Region. The men were killed as they finished daily fasting and were eating dinner, and the two victims were shot twenty times each, in execution style.

Subsequently, the Gharri defense force traced the Murale gunmen’s foot prints to Alango, and encountered approximately 150 Murale gunmen there. Fighting ensued on September 7, 2008 and when it all over, ten Murale gunmen and two APs were dead. Their water supply was also, destroyed thereafter.

According to an eyewitness accounts, the two deceased APs were amongst a dozen APs who were deployed there illegally by the Mandera DC and Murale MP to keep out the Gharri people from returning to Alango , in order to grab the Gharri land as they did to the Gharri of Butte in 2000. In which over six thousand Gharri citizens are still in concentration camps at El Danaba.

Alango is a village located in El Wak District and occupied by both the Gharri and Murale people administered by their respected chiefs and assistant chiefs.

However, later on, Alango was abandoned and both communities were disperse, and it was declared a paver zone. Because the Murale couldn’t control their young men who were robbing the Gharri people, raping women and young girls, as well as raping goats. Since then, the new Murale MP bribed the new Mandera District Commissioner and together they allowed the Murale to go back to Alango and dig new water-well there and deployed a dozen APs along with Murale gunmen to keep the Gharri people out and to ensure Murale’s settlement.

But, the Murale gunmen and their Politians did not just stopped there but, continue arbitrary killing of the Gharri citizens and continue making concerted efforts to push the Gharri people out of Sotowa Oro, Sukella Tinfa and Wargadud. While all these atrocities were taking place, the Kenyan government did not take action against the Murale gunmen and their war monging MP, but were sending religious elders as a mockery as if the elders had a magic bullet and the authority to punish the perpetrators.
